Any camera decision will naturally be influenced heavily by the price. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices give an idea on the placement of the camera in the maker’s lineup and the broader market. The K-5 was launched at a somewhat lower price (by 21 percent) than the A6700, which makes it more attractive for photographers on a tight budget. The A6700 has on-sensor phase detect pixels, which results in fast and reliable autofocus acquisition even during live view operation.
The Pentax K-5 has a native sensitivity range from ISO 100 to ISO 12800, which can be extended to ISO 80-51200. The corresponding ISO settings for the Sony Alpha A6700 are ISO 100 to ISO 32000, with the possibility to increase the ISO range to 50-102400.

Many modern cameras are not only capable of taking still images, but can also record movies. The two cameras under consideration both have sensors whose read-out speed is fast enough to capture moving pictures, but the A6700 provides a better video resolution than the K-5. One difference between the cameras concerns the presence of an on-board flash. The K-5 has one, while the A6700 does not. While the built-in flash of the K-5 is not very powerful, it can at times be useful as a fill-in light.
